Since their debut in February 2009, Sacra/Profana has rapidly been gaining a reputation as a vibrant new presence in American choral music. Described by San Diego City Beat as "genre-bending", the 24-voice ensemble has been widely celebrated in the local press for their boldness of vision. A KPBS feature on the group hailed them as "choral music for the iPod generation", and sandiego.com praised the choir's "adventurous repertory - both polished and daring". The San Diego Reader says: "San Diego is fortunate to have a group like Sacra/Profana bringing us new music that is of high quality."

Program Note

SACRA / PROFANA presents "GHOST IN THE MACHINE", a program of choral music exploring the spiritual presence in the physical world. Repertoire includes György Ligeti's 'Lux Aeterna' (famously featured in Stanley Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey'), 'Fog Dream' by Stephen Feigenbaum, 'I Lie' by David Lang, plus works by William Byrd and Joshua Shank. SACRA / PROFANA will also be joined by the San Diego Children's Choir in music by the Festival's composer-in-residence Michael Gordon.
