Matt McBane, Founder and Artistic Director

Matt McBane founded the Carlsbad Music Festival in his hometown of Carlsbad in 2004. In addition, he is a composer whose music ranges from visceral rhythms and complex grooves to delicate melodies and rich textures, freely and intuitively incorporating a wide array of influences including: minimalism, avant pop, experimentalism, European classical music, art rock, jazz, film music, fiddle music and electronic music. He is the composer and violinist for his band Build which received widespread critical acclaim for its two albums (Place 2011 and Build 2008) on New Amsterdam Records. In 2015 his 5 movement suite for bluegrass string band “Drawn” was released on the Jake Schepps Quintet’s album “Entwined” which was selected as a top album of the year by Colorado Public Radio. He is currently a Doctoral Fellow at Princeton University. 


Becky Goodman, Managing Director

Becky has more than 18 years of professional experience in theatre, film, and live event production, including teaching and business management. She currently serves on the Board of Directors as Secretary and Music Series Director for Oceanside Theatre Company, is CEO and Co-Founder of TenPints Entertainment, and is content strategist for Soka University’s website project. Previously, Becky held positions such as Chair of Oceanside Arts Commission, part-time faculty for Wayne State University, Marketing & Administrative Manager for Soka Performing Arts Center, Managing Director for The Vagrancy, Director of Theatre Operations for Canyon Crest Academy, Production Manager and Technical Director for New Village Arts Theatre,  and Scene Shop Manager for Pacific Event Productions in San Diego, CA. She earned an MFA in Theatre Management from Wayne State University in Detroit, and a BA in Theatre Arts from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

Storm Marquis is a recent graduate of Chapman University. She earned a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance from the Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Dr. Nick Terry. Storm closely studied the history of western classical music and jazz history and loves to perform in these styles. In addition to working with the Carlsbad Music Festival, she is currently volunteering at the Museum of Making Music, a program division of the NAMM Foundation.

Friends of the Festival

The purpose of the Friends of the Festival is to widen Carlsbad Music Festival’s network of supporters who are interested in being more involved with the organization. As a Friend you are invited to advocate for the organization and the festival by making connections with other individuals, businesses, and associations who will help sustain and grow CMF. You are also invited to attend events hosted by CMF and the festival itself and will invite like-minded individuals to attend as well. If interested in doing so, you may also host events in support of the organization. As a Friend of the Festival, you are treated as a VIP of the organization and receive special invitations and opportunities as thanks for your support.
