Stephanie Richards + Andrew Munsey
“Stephanie Richards’ trumpet sounds like deep space wrapped around your head…” -NPR
Stephanie Richards is a trumpet performer, improviser, composer, conductor, bandleader, curator and producer whose accolades extend far beyond what might be expected of an early-career musician. Driven by curiosity about how listeners interact with music and what sensory variables are open to experimentation, Richards has worked with experimental improvisers (Henry Threadgill, Butch Morris and John Zorn) and popular music creators (David Byrne, St. Vincent and Kanye West) alike, performing commissioned works and her own compositions on legendary stages like those at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Blue Note and many others. She is also an assistant professor at University of California San Diego.
Andrew B. Munsey is a drummer, composer, and recording engineer living and working in San Diego, CA. He has performed and premiered works at Lincoln Center, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Symphony Space, while his work as an engineer and editor can be heard on recordings from the Bridge, New World, Hathut, Innova, No Business, NNA Tapes, and Edition Wandelweiser recording labels. He received his BFA in Jazz Studies from the California Institute of the Arts under the mentorship of Joe LaBarbera. He is currently a recording engineer in the Department of Music at UC San Diego.
